Welcome to Kate Dawson Jewellery where I specialise in engagement rings, wedding bands and unique made to order pieces.
Helpful Guidance & Advice
I predominately create diamond and coloured stone jewellery, normally working with platinum and gold. Along with many engagement ring samples and designs, I also have an extensive range of wedding rings to choose from. My expertise are in 3D computer aided design (CAD) and so I am able to offer a unique custom service where I work with clients to bring their thoughts and ideas to life. Choosing jewellery can be a daunting prospect and I try to keep the process as relaxed and straight forward as possible.
My Background: Learning the craft
I first realised my passion for jewellery aged 17 after completing a Silversmithing course in Derby. I later went on to graduate from Wolverhampton University with a degree specialising in Jewellery Design and was naturally drawn towards Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter to start my journey as a designer/maker. My first job for a large jewellery manufacturer gave me a valuable insight into production methods and helped me forge strong working links with specialists in this field. I was then offered a new job as Sales and Design Manager for a small independent fine jewellery retailer/manufacturing workshop where I continued to develop my craft – planning, designing and making jewellery for hundreds of delighted customers across the country.
From The Jewellery Quarter to Derby…
After 15 years in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter with plenty of experience gained along the way, the offer of a studio at Banks Mill in my hometown seemed like the perfect opportunity.
In 2023 I moved on from a fantastic residency at Banks Mill Studios, into my permanent studio just north of Derby city centre nestled in the stunning historic Darley Abbey.
My space provides me with endless inspiration. I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by Georgian architecture, the river Derwent and open green spaces including Darley Park.
